VEDIC MATHS : MULTIPLICATION

In Vedic maths,  there are some very easy ways of multiplying numbers by specific numbers, which makes the whole multiplication process a very interesting one.

In Vedic maths multiplication there are two types of techniques.

The specific multiplication techniques : These techniques are fast and effective but can be used only for particular combination of numbers, we will be studying below mentioned techniques.

VEDIC MATHS MULTIPLICATION BY 11

We use the vedic maths sutra "Antyayoreva" also called as "Only the last two"

The application of vedic maths sutra is very easy. We just have to add only the last two digits. By using this vedic maths sutra we are only doing addition instead of multiplication and we get the same answer as we would have got if we had multiplied the number by 11.

VEDIC MATHS MULTIPLICATION BY 12

We use the vedic maths sutra "Sopantyadvayamantyam" also called as "The ultimate and twice the penultimate"

Here too we are doing addition instead of multiplication and still we get the same answer as we would get if we had multiplied the number by 12.

VEDIC MATHS MULTIPLICATION BY 9

We use vedic maths sutra "Ekanyunena Purvena" also called as "By one less than one before"

In the whole number series 9 is the most interesting number therefore the multiplication of 9 is also very interesting.  We have categorized the multiplication by 9 in three types.

MISCLLANEOUS SPECIFIC VEDIC MATHS MULTIPLICATION TECHNIQUES

  • Multiplication of numbers ending in 5
  • Multiplication of numbers between 50-60
  • Multiplication of numbers with similar digits in the multiplier

VEDIC MATHS : MULTIPLICATION BY NIKHILAM

We use Vedic maths sutra "Nikhilam Navatascaraman Dasatah" also called as "All from nine and last from ten"

This method is used to multiply numbers close to base. It is of immense help in certain cases where traditional multiplication takes a long time to calculate the answer. Let us take the case of multiplying 9999999 X 9999998. If you go by the traditional multiplication method it will take long time to calculate answer, however by this technique we can find answer in less than 5 seconds.

This multiplication technique is also called MULTIPLICATION BY BASE METHOD because in this system we use a certain number as base.

We are going to learn in Vedic Maths Base method

  • Multiplication of numbers where both the numbers are less than the base.
  • Multiplication of numbers where both the numbers are more than the base.
  • Multiplication of one more and one less than the base number.
  • Working base multiplication.

VEDIC MATHS MULTIPLICATION :  BY VERTICAL AND CROSSWISE

We use Vedic maths sutra "Urshvatiryagbhyam" also called as "Vertical and Crosswise"

There is a traditional way of multiplication which is taught to students in schools. This system of multiplication is perfect and works for any combination of numbers.

In Vedic mathematics too, we have a similar system but it helps us to get the answer much faster. This system is also a universal system and can be used for any combination of numbers of any length.
